LOCKSMITH’S SECOND ELEMENT TO REHAB/ REFORM PROGRAM FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP BUILDERS
GOAL: Create a setting in which inmates can interact with family members. Giving them an opportunity to prepare themselves for their new life as a family once the imprisoned family member is freed.
Inmates and their family members will be allowed to coexist in a home setting as an actual family. Sessions will take place once every two weeks for six months and once every week for another six months after the first six months are complete.

HOW FAMILY BUILDER’S WORK
Inmates will be provided the opportunity and needed materials to plan and set in place goals they seek to reach. This will mold the inmates into an individual that will be beneficial to the family structure.

Example: A good parent, spouse, son, daughter, nephew, niece, etc.

After inmate have been afforded the opportunity to select and set goals. The family members of the inmate will be allowed to look over the inmate’s goals and express how the inmate could obtain the goals from their perspective. Accomplishing goals will succeed if family members views are considered. A better son to a mother: the mother can help her son be better by her expressions.

Once all information is collected inmates must study the views and request of their family members. They must practice all learned information given by family members. This will effectively help the inmate to successfully obtain the ultimate goal, while being in a home setting. Principles and morals can be practiced until such practice becomes habitual for both the inmates and family members. Functioning as a healthy family. This type of program institutes inmates and family members to exhibit reformed and rehabilitative behaviors within the family structure. Both parties embrace each other’s point of view while practicing putting love one’s interest before self.

Family members will be required to set goals. The inmates are allowed to give expressed input on how family members can obtain such goals to be better family members.
Example:
1. A child may set a goal to finish school. Imprisoned parent will review child goal and give advice as well as support. Assisting child to effectively accomplish such goal.

2. Wife may set goal to be a better wife. Imprisoned spouse will review goal and guide wife as to what she can do to be a better wife for her husband. This will be beneficial for the whole family.

Counselors will be present occasionally and will sit in to observer and document all behaviors. Counselors observe the inmate’s family skills are sufficient enough to deem the inmate reformed and rehabilitated to be set free and or to be placed back in his or her family structure. Such expert opinions are necessary for inmates recommendation to be set free.
